Removing the Simple Pump Hand Pump Handle

There are two different ways to remove the Simple Pump handle. Please see below for explanations of the two different methods. Please review each method thoroughly before deciding which approach you should take.

With Removing the Clevis

Remove the four ¼-20x½ Allen head bolts where the handle bracket attaches to the pump head. Once these are removed, the pump rod should drop slightly, however, there should still be pump rod visible between the clevis and the top of the pump head. If the clevis drops all the way down to the top of the pump head, please review the below note.

Note: If the ratio of pipe length to rod length is less than the required 4”, there is a possibility that the pump rod will drop down into the pump head once the clevis is removed. If this happens there will be extra steps required to reattach the handle. If you know this is your situation then we suggest you remove the handle using the method where the Clevis is NOT removed.

If you have pump rod visible between the clevis and the pump head, you can now remove the handle by unthreading the clevis from the pump rod. The clevis has left-hand threads, this is the reverse of normal threads. This means you will need to turn the clevis clockwise to loosen. It is not necessary to remove any of the clevis pins when using this method.

Without Removing the Clevis

Remove the four ¼-20x½ Allen head bolts where the handle bracket attaches to the pump head. Once these are removed, the pump rod should drop slightly.

Press the spring-loaded key on the clevis pin that is connecting the clevis to the lever arm. Once depressed you should be able to push the clevis pin out of the clevis. Once the pin is removed two brass shims will likely fall out of the clevis. The handle should now be removed.

We suggest you put the clevis pin back through the hole on the lever arm, including the shims.
