The Simple Pump Deep Well Hand Pump will fit in MOST WELLS alongside an already installed submersible or alone. The Deep Well Hand Pump needs just 1.8″ diameter clearance. (If you are using the 100CA cylinder, 1.6″ clearance will be enough.)
It will also fit in a 2-inch casing alone.
The following chart shows conditions for the Simple Pump Deep Well Hand Pump installation, alongside a submersible — its most common use.
WELL ID | CONDITIONS |
4″ or 4.5″ | The Simple Pump Deep Well Hand Pump can be installed in THE MAJORITY OF 4″ or 4.5″ wells.
The Simple Pump must be set at least ten feet above the submersible. If pitless |
5″ With submersible exiting through the well cap. | The Simple Pump Deep Well Hand Pump can be installed in the MAJORITY of 5″ wells. The 5 GPM pump needs 1.8″ clearance. The 3 GPM needs 1.6″ clearance. This will be more likely if the submersible drop pipe is the standard 1-1/4″ (ID). The Simple Pump must be set at least ten feet above the submersible. If pitless – Clearance past the pitless must also be specifically checked. Nearly all 5" wells, in our experience, will be okay without modification. |
6”, 6.25″, 7”, 8” | ALMOST ALL 6, 6.25, 7, and 8-inch wells are good for the installation of the Simple Pump hand pump alongside a submersible. Exceptions (rare): If you have a type of pitless that is unusually bulky and blocks the casing, such as these:

For Wider Dug or Bored Wells | For a dug well, three feet wide with a liner and concrete, wood, or metal lid, a hole would be drilled in the lid and the Simple Pump well adaptor can be used with appropriate bolts to install a Simple Pump deep well hand pump. |
